Meetings/Courses

THE MEETINGS

How do I know when the meetings are, and where they are?
Have a look at the Fixtures and Courses section of the site.

Who runs the meetings?
Each Point-to-Point meeting is run by a Hunt or Hunt Club, e.g. The Ludlow Point-to-Point is run by the Ludlow Hunt, and the South Devon Hunts Club Point-to-Point is run by the South Devon Hunts Club.

All of the meetings are run by volunteers who give their time and energy for free in order to raise money for the Hunt.

What time do the meetings start?
Start times vary, depending upon the time of year. Full details can be found on the Talking Point Preview Service by calling 09068 44 60 61*. Also check the Racing Post Weekender, Local Press, and the 'Go Pointing' download on this site for details.

COURSES

How many Point-to-Point courses are there?
There are currently 116 Point-to-Point courses that will be holding meetings throughout the UK during the 2008/9 season.

Where are the courses located?
Most courses are situated on private land, much of which is farm land. Although, some National Hunt courses, such as Bangor, Fakenham and Hexham either have Point-to-Point courses that run alongside the National Hunt course or the races are run on their racing surface.

Comprehensive details on all Point-to-Point courses in the UK can be found in the Courses section of the site.

Are there any new courses?
The new courses for this season are North Carlton (Lincolnshire) and Whitfield (Northamptonshire). Those that are not holding fixtures this season are Market Rasen and Weston Park.

What kind of facilities are available?
All courses will have bar, catering and toilet facilities, but the level of these differs from course to course. Many of the courses now have Trade Stands that sell country goods and food, and some even have country fairs that run alongside their meeting. Entertainment for children is also provided by a great many meetings in the shape of various activites and fairground rides.

How can I watch the racing?
The majority of Point-to-Point courses rely on the lay of the land (hills, mounds) to provide the ability to view the racing. Some do have Grandstands, but it is best to take a pair of binoculars so that you don't miss any of the action.
