01 April 2010 Best Dressed Racegoer competition at Flagg
Deemed to be the county's ‘society' event of the Easter break, the increasingly popular Flagg Races Point-to-Point is traditionally held every Easter Tuesday at Flagg Moor, 5 miles south of Buxton.
This year, with the introduction of two Pony Races, the racing starts at 12.30, with runners and riders for the notorious Member's Race going to post for 1.00pm.
The unique ‘Best Dressed Race-goer' competition, introduced as an added attraction to the meeting 3 years ago, is sponsored this year by Brocklehursts of Bakewell. Free to enter, the competition is held in the VIP Hospitality Area at 3.30pm after the 4th Race - The Ladies Open. All you have to do is come along in your ‘best bib and tucker' (bearing in mind the vagaries of the ‘traditional' Flagg weather) for the chance to win the first prize - a pair of Dubarry Galway boots worth £270.
Established in the early 1960s, Brocklehursts of Bakewell specialise in high quality gentlemen's & ladies country sporting clothing. Still family owned and run, the company, initially operating out of the back of a Landrover, has gone from strength to strength and now offers a unique variety of shopping opportunities rolled into one. No trip to Derbyshire is complete without a visit to the home of ‘the best country clothing in the country'.
Car parking is free and racecourse entrance is £10 per adult, no charge for children under 16. Set in glorious Peak District countryside, the event attracts thousands of spectators who enjoy an unrivalled day out in a wonderful location. The geography of the racecourse is ideal for spectators with hilltop parking and spectator areas affording perfect viewing and picnic opportunities or just to lie back and enjoy some of the best views our country has to offer.
The whole event is a fantastic family day out - along with the excitement of hotly contested horse (and pony) racing, there are trade stands and food outlets selling a variety of wares, a licensed bar, hound parade and bookmakers for those who fancy a punt ...... not forgetting the unique ‘Best Dressed Race-goer' competition.
