KARSHAAN: aiming to land the hat-trick

Karshaan can complete a seasonal hat trick of wins in a quality Avon Vale Mixed Open on Saturday.

The Peter Shaw-trained eight-year-old finished third at Chipley Park in January, but has since notched up effortless wins at Badbury Rings and at Larkhill. Double Mead's connections have opted for Ludlow's Thursday hunter chase, but Saturday's opposition could include Gaelic Flight, who came good at Cothelstone,  Description, a dual-course winner before falling in the Christies' Foxhunter and last year's Coronation Gold Cup hero Coombe Hill. Karshaan gets the vote to deny Description.

The Connolly's Red Mills Intermediate has attracted 12 entries, including recent course winners Lutteur Bleu and May Be Possible. Special Account, who impressed at Buckfastleigh before being beaten at Ottery St Mary, and dual course winner Mister Melodious, who is on a retrieving mission after finishing third at Brocklesby Park, are the two to choose from.

Flying Phento impressed here in February and can follow up in the 17-entry Restricted. Richard Barber has a strong hand with Bold Chief, Flanshan, Fredwal, Tregaro and Trueflyingcolours and his chosen runner may be the one to contest the finish.

Righteous Glory can win the Conditions race for Stan and Sally Rawlins.  Irish Toast would be a popular winner for first season trainer Stuart Penny, but Long Courrier goes well at Larkhill and may be the alternative.

Quizzling, who has won his last three races, is among the 13 entries for the Novice Riders' race. Challengers may include the Princes' Preacher Boy, who collared Barneys Mate close home here in March, Kingston St Mary winner Nobody Tells Me and Sunday's Mendip winner, Duxy Hill Lady. Quizzling is fancied to give jockey Micheal Nolan another success.

Humbel Origins was runner-up at Ston Easton on Sunday and looks the one for the Hunt race. Dene's Dip and Faneuil Hall can give punters a sporting run for their money in the 18-entry Maiden contest.

Two pony races - qualifiers for the Wessex Series Finals in May - take place prior to the Point-to-Point races from 12.30pm.

The course is found just NW of Amesbury on Salisbury Plain, reached off the A303, A345 or A360.  First race: 2.00pm (Pony racing 12.30pm).
