08 April 2008 Bedale - Hornby Castle

Cop Howe: impressive dual winner this season

The Bedale Point-to-Point at Hornby Castle on Saturday have received 147 entries, but with 52 entered in the Maiden race this has been divided resulting in a 7 race card.

The meeting starts at 1.30pm with the Confined Conditions race, for horses that have not won under rules or won a Point-to-Point Open race. Of the 18 entered, three stand out. Cop Howe looked impressive when winning his last two races with ease, disappointed at Charm Park, but can be in the shake up if returning to his best. The other two are the David Easterby trained pair of, dual winner, North Island and Chorizo, who has rattled up a hat trick with the minimum of fuss and can give Oliver Greenall another winner in his quest to be National Champion jockey.

Scenic Storm will be short odds if contesting the Members but will be carrying a penalty and may opt for the Men's Open. Out To Lunch has never been out of the frame in his 4 races, whilst Lutin du Moulin has been in the frame in his last 2 races since Nathan Moscrop has taken over the reigns and can win.

The Restricted has 23 entries, several of whom won their maiden races with ease including Quinto de Lobo and The Fair Hill Boy, but Roger Marley's Wasntme who won with authority once the penny had dropped at Charm Park can follow up.

Two interesting entries in the Ladies' Open are the Mike Dawson trained pair of Vingis Park and Virgin Soldier who made all to win at Market Rasen on his debut. Hunter Chase winner Plutocrat and Interdit will ensure a strong pace but Mooramana who won on his return at Welbeck can win despite coming to grief at Beechers Brook in the Aintree Foxhunters.

Andre Chenier returned to form under Guy Brewer at Mordon and can go close in the Men's Open, whilst Scenic Storm will be at home on this testing track. The consistent Glenelly Gale is entered, but Queenies Girl who never runs a bad race can score for Paul Frank.

The Maiden race has 26 entered in each division. In the first division Out To Lunch, who is also entered in the Members, can beat Vodkova King and Liverpool.

Division 2 looks more competitive with Dee Cee Bolter, Romanov Rambler and Jimmy's Duky being the top rated, with latter looking the likely winner.

Selections: Confined - Chorizo; Members - Lutin du Moulin; Restricted - Wasntme; Ladies' Open - Mooramana; Men's Open - Queenies Girl; Maiden Div 1 - Out To Lunch; Maiden Div 2 - Jimmy's Duky.
