DERMATOLOGISTE: could bid to follow up Maiden win
The Midlands Area Point-to-Point season will get underway with the Burton, which will take place at North Carlton on the Lincolnshire Showground.
This is the first of two meetings at the venue which is now in it's third year, with the Blankney following on Sunday 20th February. The first race is at 12.00noon and entrance is £5 for the car park and then £5 per person. 90 Entries have been received and there will be 6 races as things stand.
There will be a big screen in the middle of the course to show racing. Bookmakers will be in attendance and there will be a selection of trade stands including a licenced bar and food outlets. Audi, who are sponsoring the Mens Open race, will have a display of cars at the course.
Racing begins with the LUHC Club Members race which is open to Lincolnshire horses and has attracted four Entries headed by Milson Robinson's Exit To Luck. This former Steve Gollings-trained gelding has won seven flat races but is yet to show any worthwhile form over jumps. Rider/Trainer Samantha Klug, who is now operating from Sue Lamyman's former base at Ruckland, has two horses entered; David Todd's Tally Ho Back is a nine-year-old gelding by Kayf Tara with no form to date. He also holds an entry in the Mumby Heppenstall Restricted race later on. Landenstown Star was purchased at Ascot sales in November having raced six times, showing some ability when placed second in a bumper. This six year old has plenty of potential and if he runs on Sunday his Owner George Pickering could collect the Charles Pickering Memorial Perpetual Challenge Trophy, presented in memory of his father, to the first Brocklesby horse past the post. Martin Wells's veteran Yann's may still be good enough to win this race. He scored for the Owner's daughter Olivia in the Blankney Members race at this course in 2010.
Junction 4 Pallets have kindly sponsored the Confined race for which 14 Entries have been taken. Samantha Klug has Great Grimsby entered here; he is one of the Racing Post Weekender Six To Follow for the Midlands Area. This gelding won a 3m3f handicap chase at Sedgefield in 2008 before losing his way under Rules. However, he returned to form when finishing second on this course last season and should run well here. 2009 Midlands Area Leading horse Menchikov may make his reappearance following a season's absence in this race or later on in the Lincoln Audi Mens Open race. Milson Robinson's gelding won four Open races and was second in a Hunter Chase two years ago and will take some beating here if back to his best.
The Ladies Open race is kindly sponsored by F.P. Watson of Lincoln and 17 Entries have been received. Pass The Parsel won the Restricted race at this meeting last year before going on to win a Hunter Chase. Margaret Moody's gelding could be ideally suited by Ladies Open races and has a good chance. Samantha Klug has Caramia entered here; this gelding won the Confined race at Brocklesby last season beating Galaxia by three quarters of a length. The biggest danger will be the Mason's family's game mare Poppy Day, who won the Confined race here last year before going on to win the Grimthorpe Gold Cup.
He's The Gaffer, another course winner in 2010, holds an entry in the Lincoln Audi Mens Open race. This horse is owned by the Churton family; he stays well and has a decent chance. Tom Bannister's talented performer My Old Piano would also have a chance if making the journey from David Easterby's yard in Yorkshire. An interesting possible is Shillingstone, who was highly rated when trained by Robert Alner and started favourite for the Kim Muir at Cheltenham last season, where he pulled up. He is now owned by The Countess Cathcart and will be ridden by her son George Greenock.
The Mumby Heppenstall Restricted race has 19 Entries. Jonny Bailey has a good chance of riding the winner here; he could ride recent Maiden winner Dermatologiste, who is trained by his father Gerald. Alternatively Bailey, who has already ridden three winners this season, may team up with Judy Wilson's Tinker's Burrow. Chris Bealby's Harlaxton also has a good chance. He won his Maiden on this course last season, has since been second in two Restricted races and the predicted good ground on Sunday will suit.
In the final race at 2.55pm, the Hodgson Elkington Open Maiden Race over 2m4f; 22 Entries have been taken. Oojar, who won the South Wold Maiden last season, before being disqualified for failing a drugs test, may have a good chance of making amends.
The course is situated one mile north of Lincoln and the entrance is off Tillbridge Lane (A1500), use gate 6. For satellite navigation systems the post code is LN2 2NA.
