27 April 2011 Preview: Cambridgeshire with Enfield Chace - Northaw
by James Crispe
A superb entry of 109 horses and an extensive watering campaign should ensure six competitive races at the Cambridgeshire with Enfield Chace Point-To-Point at Northaw on Monday May 2.
The action is set to start with a bang as the biggest entry of 26 has been received for the opening contest, the Club Members Race, which comes under orders at 2.15pm.
Those engaged include Finnish Melody and Gleeson, who between them are unbeaten in five starts this season, Flowersoftherarest, a previous course winner who has won his last three starts, and Pass The Class, a recent dual scorer from the red hot Patrick Hutchinson yard.
Finnish Melody could instead be aimed at the Ladies Open, where her 22 potential opponents include three from the Joe Turner stable, most notably King du Berlais, who will be bidding to complete a five-timer.
The 13-entry Mens Open could be at the mercy of Caveman, who took his career tally to 15 wins at Marks Tey last Monday, although Letterman, who is a full brother to no less than the Grand National winner Ballabriggs, could give him a tough battle if bouncing back to his best following three non-completions.
The steeplechasing draws to a close at 5.10pm with a 12-entry Open Maiden, and will be preceded at 1pm by two children's pony races, run over half a circuit of the course bypassing the fences.
The course is two miles north east of Potters Bar on the B156 between Northaw and Cuffley at postcode EN6 4NU. It can be approached using either junction 24 or 25 of the M25 and Cuffley railway station is a 15 minute walk away. Admission will be charged at £10 per head with under 17s allowed in for free.
