by Weatherbys Chase Staff
The 51st edition of the ‘Bible of Point-to-Pointing', the Mackenzie & Harris Hunter Chasers & Point-to-Pointers Annual, is due to be published shortly and for the first time ever now includes an expertly-selected shortlist of the most fascinating horses to follow between the flags for the 2009/10 season - the Weatherbys Chase ‘Stars'.
Rather than horses to watch when they move to professional yards, the ‘Stars' have been selected by the authors as the twelve performers who they feel possess the most potential to become leading lights in the Point-to-Point and Hunter Chase sphere in the coming season. The fortunes of the selected dozen will be followed and updated regularly on the sport's National website, www.pointtopoint.co.uk.
The Annual remains one of the most comprehensive form publications in production, containing full results with comments-in-running, for 2008/09, as well as honest and insightful analysis for all horses to have contested a Point-to-Point or Hunter Chase during the season, unique ratings (invaluable for selecting winners and provenly successful for over half a century), an in-depth review of last season, a comprehensive guide to the 116 British Point-to-Point courses, a statistical section (more on www.pointtopoint.co.uk), and over 150 black & white and colour photographs.
Costing just £47.50 (plus p & p), the Annual is also available free with a subscription to the comprehensive weekly Loose Leaf results service (priced at £215 for the whole season), an essential tool for anyone who takes their Point-to-Point and Hunter Chase betting seriously.
The 2008/09 Loose Leaf lived up to its reputation with several insightful comments on horses that went on to win well later in the season - not least subsequent Christie's Foxhunter winner Cappa Bleu after his GB debut in a Horseheath Mens Open; "...hugely impressive in v fast time & might be the next State of Play for the owners". He is now in training with Evan Williams and being aimed at top staying Handicap Steeplechases.
