ELIZA DOALOTT: won her first race of the season in the Ladies Open

The Derwent Point to Point was blessed with glorious weather this weekend, which attracted a large crowd and with almost perfect ground there were runners in abundance.

The two class horses on display appeared in the two Opens. Again Sonevafushi showed his class in the Mens race with a very easy success; always prominent Jake Greenall went clear two out and although Over To Joe tried to make a race of it, Sonevafushi was far too classy.

Eliza Doalott took the Ladies Open under Freya Brewer, who was riding the horse for the first time in public. Always travelling and jumping immensely well, the mare took it up two out and quickened clear jumping the last to record a ready success for owner-trainer Maxine Stirk. Andre Chenier stayed on very well in second and ran a much better race this week, whilst Moment Of Madness finished third after a very positive ride from Alison Pocklington.

The Members race saw a popular win for Harwood Dale, as he did so in the race two years ago. After a poor season last year, connections thought a change of scenery would help the ten year old and is now trained by Freya Brewer, where he is reportedly much more relaxed and well behaved. Veteran Robber ran an excellent race to be second; however hot favourite Calapocus broke a blood vessel and could only manage third.

The Confined race saw the ex Paul Nicholls-trained Nippy De Mottes win for Toby Greenall and Cherry Coward. Toby crept through the field and with a driving finish swooped late to catch Brize Norton and Oaklands Bobby, who both had disputed most of the running. Oaklands Bobby looked the winner two out, but found very little.

The Restricted race saw Irish import Lem Putt win in decent style. Bought privately out of Ireland through Colm Magnier, Lem Putt was bought to replace the sad loss of Ballybrakes. The winner moved up to dispute the lead three out and soon went clear after the last, whilst long time leader Beau Dandy ran very well for second and a Restricted is surely within his grasp. Fli Mi Son never travelled with much fluency when it was needed and could only manage third.

The Open Maiden race was bursting with runners, which resulted in it being divided. Division 1 saw an impressive display by the debutant Natureofthebeast who also gave Miles Seston his first winner of the season. Natureofthebeast was clear turning into the straight and powered home to record a ready success. It would be no surprise to see this one follow up in a Restricted. Chapel House was staying on well near the line for second, whilst the gamble of the race Springfield Dante could only manage third.

The final race of the day went the way of Tom Greenall and David Easterby with Sea Senor. Always keen, Greenall's mount pulled his way to the front and was never passed; the pair sauntered clear in the straight to win incredibly easily. Monkerty Tunkerty ran into another decent rival here and had to settle for another second, whilst Adieu Mari ran a good third.
