Caveman, Rydal Park and Forget The Ref, three of East Anglia's top pointers who fought out the finish of a Mens Open at Ampton two weeks ago, could cross swords anew in the Essex Farmers & Union meeting at Marks Tey on Sunday March 21st.

The trio, who are all trained within 20 miles of each other in Norfolk, are part of an 11-strong entry for the Mens Open which also includes Kadount, who should come on a bundle for his narrow seasonal debut defeat at Higham on March 6th.

Forget The Ref's connections may choose to run instead in the Ladies Open, but this also looks a hot contest with old rivals Mid Div And Creep and King du Berlais among the 13 possibles. Mid Div And Creep has beaten King du Berlais twice at Horseheath this season, but King du Berlais came out on top when they met over this course and distance last month.

Exactly 100 horses have been entered for this fixture, which gets under way at 2.00pm with a Hunt Race in which four of the six engaged hail from the in-form George Cooper yard.

The last of six scheduled races is the Maiden, which is set to come under order at 4.55pm. However, 32 are entered here (including five that finished second last time out) and with the maximum field size only 18 there is every chance that it will need to be split into two divisions.

Marks Tey is west of both the village of the same name, near Colchester, and the junction of the A12 and the A120, post code CO5 9EZ. It needs to be approached using the London-bound carriageway of the A12 then taking the left turn signposted for Easthorpe.

Admission will be charged at £10 per head with under 17s free.
