SIR RONAN: not without a chance at Worcester
Entries for Wednesday's meeting at Worcester feature a host of names familiar to Point-to-Point fans.
The opening Amateur Riders' Handicap Hurdle (Division One) sees Point-to-Pointing particularly well represented, with last season's four-time Open class winner Makena heading the weights with regular Pointing Rider John Mathias booked.
In receipt of 3lb is Hemington, winner of the pointtopoint.co.uk-sponsored John Corbet Cup at Stratford under today's jockey, Tom Weston; he reverts to the smaller obstacles having pulled up on his one subsequent start, when tried in a Handicap Steeplechase at Newton Abbot.
The Hairy Mutt, winner of a PPORA Club Members Conditions race at Bangor-on-Dee in May, runs for Lad y Susan Brooke with Lorna Brooke in the saddle. Le Forezien, winner of two and placed second in four Pointing starts last term, is partnered again by Richard Hawkins, whilst Emily-Jane Harbour takes the ride on Lawney Hill's Mysaynoway, who won the Southern Grand National Mixed Open at Kingston Blount in April and was last seen in a Pointing field when second in the Grafton Ladies Open.
Itzacliche, winner of two Ladies Opens for Joey Richards, is reunited with that Rider today, with the partnership having finished eighth when tackling hurdles again at Sedgefield.
Dan Maguire, third on his most recent attempt at Pointing, in the Harborough Race Club Restricted at Dingley, contests the second Division of the Amateur Riders' Handicap Hurdle at 3.20 before Misamon, who has been in good form for Dai Rees and John Mathias since returning under Rules, contested the first leg of the Handicap Hurdle.
Merry Terry failed to win a Maiden in four attempts last season yet finished placed on all three completed starts; together with Lord Lescribaa, winner of a Maiden, Restricted and Confined during his Pointing campaign, he may run well in the Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Handicap Chase, although Star of Raven, pulled up in three Points, appears hugely outclassed.
Sir Ronan, who beat Elite Beneficial to land his Restricted at Ashorne, may not be without hope of running well in the penultimate contest, the Novices' Hurdle, given his proximity to last season's extremely progressive youngster Sea Senor in the Grafton Intermediate.
