Scarre Lotte: recent Chaddesley winner, gets the nod in the Novice Riders race
The Fernie Hunt have received a good sized entry of 135 horses for their annual Point-to-Point races, to be held this Sunday at Dingley, near Market Harborough. First race at 2.00pm.
The course at present looks to be in excellent condition and of the six races scheduled, the feature race is the Fernie Four Mile Mixed Open, with the Fernie Gold Cup at stake. Admission prices are as last year - Car with driver, £15; additional passengers and pedestrians £5 each. Children under 16 free.
The first race is the PPORA Club Members race for Novice Riders. This is sponsored by Summit Engineering of Blaby and has an entry of 27. My Best Buddy, from the Gerald Bailey yard, ran second at Brafield and is consistent. Rainbow Tree won at Thorpe Lodge in March; Willy The Kid is a winner on this course; but Scare Lotte, who won at Chaddesley Corbett recently, just gets the vote.
Watling JCB have kindly sponsored the second race, the Confined Race, and this has attracted an entry of 20. Owner/rider Richard Hunnisett has the choice of Cheyne and Harapour who are both recent winners. Carbon Footprint was second at Guilsborough and Silver Buzzard, from the Hutchinson stable, has good form from last year.
Race three is the Confined Maiden Race for 5, 6 and 7 year olds, sponsored by Bishop Beamish, and 18 horses have been entered. Karazy Daisy ran third at Upton-upon-Seven, and Silk Rope took third spot at Brafield, however, Up In The Sky looks best on his second in a Maiden at Tabley.
The Fernie Four Mile Mixed Open race has 21 entries and is sponsored by Welland Valley Feeds of Market Harborough. Cosi Celeste and Parsonhumfrywebber both won at this meeting last year; Rainbow Tree and Harapour are both entered in earlier races but could run in this instead; however, Bedtime Boys is lightly raced this year and is the selection.
The fifth race is the Restricted, sponsored by Tenon, has an entry of nineteen and looks slightly tricky. Jubilee George was placed at Garthorpe last weekend; Pass The Parcel and Eydon Run were both placed at Clifton-on-Dunsmore; whilst Marble Leader ran second at Kimble.
Thirty horses are entered for the final race, the Open Maiden race, sponsored by Tilton ATV. Beau Sam has shown promise in his last two runs; Mike Dawson has his youngster Bentoto entered who is highly thought of; nevertheless, Oriental Gentleman is preferred considering the form of his runs at Kingston Blount and Larkhill.
The Racecourse at Dingley is situated 3 miles East of Market Harborough on the Market Harborough to Corby road.
