22 September 2011 Fixture List Published
by Point-to-Point Racing Company Ltd Staff
The Fixture List for the 2011/12 Point-to-Point season has been released.
A total of 210 fixtures have been scheduled, which represents an increase of two from 2010/11. The season kicks off with the traditional curtain-raiser at Black Forest Lodge, which takes place on Sunday 27th November alongside the opening meeting of the East Anglian Area, the Cambridge University United Hunts Club at Cottenham.
The new Golden Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend in early June means that there will be no fewer than ten meetings taking place during the sixth month of the year, with the season coming to a close, as tradition dictates, at Umberleigh on Saturday 16th June.
John Wade's course at Mordon hosts the only brand new fixture, namely the South Durham Farmers Club, which takes place on Sunday 26th February, while the Farmers Bloodhounds (who have moved to Whitfield) and the West of Yore (Whitcliffe Grange) return to the calendar following a year's absence. The only meeting missing from the fixture list is the Harborough Race Club, who lost their 2011 meeting because of hard ground and have decided not to apply for a fixture in 2012. Their traditional late-May date at Dingley has been taken over by the Fitzwilliam (Milton), who have moved from Cottenham.
In course news, Pointing fans in the South Midlands Area will surely be cheered by the news of the return of the popular course at Mollington, which is to host a fixture after five years in the wilderness. The meeting in question is the May Bank Holiday Warwickshire Point-to-Point, which has moved from the now-defunct Ashorne.
In other course news, Erw Lon in West Wales will again not be used - the Vale of Clettwr meeting will next year be run at Cilwendeg, while Alpraham has lost its sole meeting (the Cheshire) to Tabley. Other meetings that have changed venues for 2011/12 include the Hursley Hambledon (now racing at Tweseldown), West Street Tickham (Charing), Wilton (Milborne St Andrew) and the Granta Harriers (Cottenham).
UPDATE 27/09/2011: Please note that, since the fixture list was published, the Tredegar Farmers at Lower Machen has moved to Saturday 5th May 2012 (from Sunday 29th April). The fixture list page has been amended to reflect this change.
