01 November 2010 Rider Round-Up
by Carolyn Tanner
Injured Rider Harry Fowler's luck seems to have changed, whilst his Yorkshire counterpart Will Milburn has been branching out.
There has been some good news for Harry Fowler, whose woes were reported on this site in October. A scan has revealed a crack in the knee and the tibia at the back of the knee, but the feared knee ligament damage is thankfully minimal. The remedy, designed to get the soft tissue working again, is plenty of what Harry calls "aggressive physio."
He has already resumed jogging, cycling and swimming, and having felt that, prior to the accident, he was fitter than he had ever been, he is slowly but surely starting to return to that level.
He hopes to be back on a horse later this month with the aim of race-riding by January.
****************************
Yorkshire-based novice rider Will Milburn combines working for an on-line sports shop with riding out for Andy Nicholls and writing area Point-to-Point previews and reports, but he has added a new occupation to his c.v., that of film star.
Will recently managed to get a week off work in order to appear as an extra on the new Steven Spielberg movie "War Horse." Although he will be able to spot himself on camera he is not sure whether any of his friends will actually be able to recognise him, so they may have to take his participation on trust!
Will, who had his first rides in 2008, will be returning to the fray after an absence due to a combination of injuries to himself and his intended mount, but is looking forward to making his seasonal debut on new purchase Brochure, formerly with Gill Walford. The partnership could possibly appear at Alnwick in December, and their chance of success is undoubtedly much higher than that of Will's filming exploits being treated with reverence by his colleagues!
