Oat Hill: the first leg of Deano Coleman's double at the meeting

Deano Coleman took the riding honours at the Gelligaer Farmers' Point-to-Point Steeplechases on Sunday, landing a double with Oat Hill (young horse Maiden) and Withington (aged horse Maiden) which brought his season's tally of wins to nine.

Oat Hill, owned by Cardiff's Mark Glastonbury, won by two and a half lengths from Caribbean nights, and Withington, owned by Jamie Jenkins and Darren Rees from Tonyrefail, won by twelve lengths.

James Stephens was taken to hospital after falling from the pacemaking Geralds Request.

Both of Deano's winners are trained at Cowbridge by Abbi Vaughan wife of National Hunt trainer Tim Vaughan.

Welsh champion rider Isabel Tompsett won the Members' race on Find It Out who scored by eight lengths from What A Biscuit. Sadly, Isabel, who looked like winning the Restricted on Plums & Apples only to fall when leading three fences from the finish, was taken to hospital with a suspected dislocated shoulder.

The race was won by 33-1 outsider Ave Plaisir, who gave Sherrie Anne Derrick, 22, from Bristol, her first winning ride.

Simon Jones' Fruitfull Citizen, partnered by his wife Lucy, made nearly all the running to win the Confined by ten lengths from the odds-on Danbury who was never travelling well throughout the race.

Margaret Johns' Adventurist, well ridden by her son Alan, 18, took the Mixed Open by two and a half lengths from Lough Rynn.

The Countryside Alliance meeting will be held at Bonvilston on Bank Holiday Monday, May 26 (first race 2.00pm).

The South Wales Area Point-to-Point Dinner Dance & Area Awards will be held on July 4 at the Parkway Hotel, Cwmbran.
