24 March 2009 Preview: Glamorgan - Ystradowen

There are 135 entries for the Glamorgan Hunt Point-To-Point Steeplechases at Ystradowen near Cowbridge on Saturday, with the first race at 1pm.

Racing gets underway with the five, six and seven-year-old Confined Maiden race for which there are 36 entries. Bless Me Father, who finished a six lengths runner-up to Handofharperstown at the Curre & Llangibby last Sunday will be fancied along with Saucy Jack who finished a further six lengths behind him, but preference is given to David Brace's Ballyprince who was beaten by Dannys Last at the Vale of Clettwr meeting in January.

There are 17 down to run in the Confined Maiden for eight-year-olds and over and J W Tudor's Musique En Tete, who finished fourth behind Duggans Forge at the Carmarthenshire, might be another winner for James Tudor.

Of the 23 in the Confined race, Norman Jones' Silver Story and Richard Nicholas' Casey Tiles, who both won their divisions of the Restricted at the Brecon & Talybont meeting, look best.

Another Brecon & Talybont winner, Edna Hussey's Bob Bites Back, may prove too good for Overlut, Complete Outsider and Dansbury in the Mixed Open for which there are 16 entries.

Kinsale King, Darnil and Twilight Dancer are three of the 16 entries for the Club Members' race for Novice Riders and preference would be for the first named. Of the 27 in the Restricted all eyes will be on David Lovell's Dead Or Alive who landed one of the biggest betting coups seen at a Point-to-Point in years when losing his maiden tag at the Flint & Denbigh. Its Danny Boy and Backstreet Lad may follow him home.
