16 March 2010 Preview: Hampshire - Hackwood Park

by Robin Gray

Point-to-point racing in Hampshire will get off to a belated start at Hackwood Park on Sunday.

The loss through frozen ground of two meetings at Tweseldown is unlikely to be repeated at Hackwood where 92 Entries have been made for the six races.

Sandhurst Area's perennial leading Rider, Philip York, has two probable mounts, Bachley Gale - one of 18 Entries in the Open Maiden - and Doubletoilntrouble in the 2m4f Maiden.

"Doubletoilntrouble is an interesting prospect', said Philip. ‘He's only just four years old, but he's been well brought along in Ireland, he's schooled very well over fences and whatever he does on Sunday, he's got a bright future."

Morestead trainer Jenny Gordon could have four runners headed by Wain Mountain, one of only three Entries in the Members race. Nice Pick, disappointing so far this year, is given another chance in the 2m4f Maiden, while Presenting Express goes for the Novice Riders event. Jenny will saddle Mandalay Bay for Owner/Rider Neil Henderson in the Restricted race.

Two pony races for children start the day at 12.45 with the first race over fences at 2.00pm.

Clerk of the Course Bill Welling has re-aligned both bends and widened two of the seven fences, meeting with the approval of Riders and Trainers who walked the course last week.

Car parks are £30 and £20 with a £10 discount for single occupancy. Catering, trade stands and childrens amusements will be on site as usual.

Hackwood Park is off the A339, Exit 6 of the M3 - postcode: RG25 2JZ
