08 October 2010 Fowler In The Wars
by Carolyn Tanner
Newmarket-based Harry Fowler is set to miss most of the coming season after an accident last month has left him with broken ribs, a punctured lung and badly damaged knee ligaments.
Fitness fanatic Harry was taking part in his cycling club's final time trial of the year when he was hit head-on by a car travelling on the wrong side of the road outside the gates of Ampton Hall. Both the car and the bike were a complete write-off.
The collision happened just five days after Harry had competed successfully in the World Duathlon Championships in Scotland. He finished tenth out of 100 in his category, but more importantly he achieved his aim of being the first Irishman!
Harry, who works for Tattersalls where the Yearling Sales are currently in progress, equates his injuries to those which might be sustained in a bad Point-to-Point fall. He is shortly due to have a scan on his knee to ascertain whether an operation will be needed, but in any case he has his sights set on being back in time for Cheltenham.
