29 June 2011 Family Delight as Hawkins Home
by Carolyn Tanner
There is some excellent news regarding Richard Hawkins, who was hospitalised with serious injuries following a Taunton fall in April.
Richard has been allowed home for a couple of weekends recently, but today (Wednesday) he was released from hospital full-time, although he will still require physio and speech therapy.
His brother Giles, who has been away on holiday for a week, said the improvement was noticeable. "He's a lot stronger and sturdier when he's walking, and he can go up and down stairs," said Giles. "His speech is better as well. He's a bit difficult to understand if he speaks too fast but it's very clear as long as he talks slowly."
Richard's mother Trudy has been a constant presence at his hospital bedside, and Giles's words "It's lovely to have Richard and mum home again" summed up the family's relief and delight.
