24 March 2009 Report: Hurworth - Hutton Rudby

UNJUST LAW: stands off from a fence on the way to a comfortable win in the Men's Open

The Hurworth hunt had a fantastic Point-to-Point on Saturday with huge crowds bathing in glorious sunshine as well as a very competitive seven race card, which resulted in 63 runners.

The highlight of the day came from the Tutty team where Pip Tutty rode a double, both trained and owned by her mother and father Nigel and Karen.

The first leg of Pip's double came in the Members race on Astral Prince, the pair were always handy and looked beaten two out, with Queenies Girl taking it up jumping the last. Tutty galvanised her mount to get up right on the line to win by a short head, Queenies Girl and Paul Frank were an honourable second with Moss Bawn back in third.

In the Ladies Open Tutty secured her second win with the useful looking Blandings Castle who made most of the running. Fairy Skin Maker loomed large two out but his effort soon petered out, this allowed Blandings Castle to stay on well for pressure as One Five Eight, who was always handy for Rebecca Mason, filled second, whilst Primus Inter Parus ran his best race so far this year for Rachel Clark in third.

The ride of the day came in the Restricted. Cnocan Aoibhinn pulled Lucy Sutcliffe into a 30 length lead from flag fall and was never headed, the rider settled her mount in the lead and got several breathers into the horse. The chasing pack were confident the trail blazer would soon stop, however despite making a bad mistake two out the pair galloped on strongly to win by 10 lengths and receive the biggest cheer of the day. Amalfi Storm and Poppy Day filled second and third respectively, however could never get near the winner.

The Mens Open saw the Greenall team have their first win of the day, Unjust Law was settled well and joined the long time leader Harwood Dale two out, Tom Greenall then eased his mount out near the line to win comfortably and justify his short price. Harwood Dale filled second with Shanteen Lass back in third.

The Confined Hunt Race saw Alison's Treasure appreciate the quicker ground and sharper track. Andrew Glass had his mount handy all the way and stayed on strongly from two out to beat Abandon Ship by two lengths, who chased him all the way to the line under Richard Smith. Lutin Du Moulin ran another excellent race to get third, whereas the red hot favourite Le Passing could never quicken with the leaders.

Division One of the maiden saw the Easterby pair Chibuku and Apollo Saturn Five, fill the first and second position. Chibuku was always going well, allowing Tom Greenall to hit the front jumping the last and driven out won by two lengths, beating stable mate Apollo Saturn Five with the promoted Brother Mark back in third.

Division Two which saw another upset. Snake Rave was backed as if defeat was out of the question, however had to settle for second, as Oaklands Bobby stayed on very strongly to pull clear over the last. This was a first career win for Colm McCormack, who looks a jockey to keep the right side of. Overjoyed ran his best so far to get third.
