MY OLD PIANO: in great form this season and registered another win at the Hurworth

The Hurworth held their Point-to-Point on Saturday; with conditions considered ideal there were plenty of runners and with glorious weather there was a very large crowd of spectators. Jockey in form on the day was Richard Smith, who rode a double by winning both divisions of the Open Maiden.

Division one was won by Paint Me Silver; never travelling, Richard was at work from the start and looked to be struggling with a circuit to go, however his perseverance paid off as he drove his mount up to win narrowly. Threadneedlegun looked to have the race jumping the last, but weakened close home and made a one-two for Trainer Russel Ross, whilst third place went to the heavily-backed debutant Classinaglass and Tom Greenall.

Division two went the way of Chapel House, who was recording a long awaited victory after a string of frustrating placed efforts. Always handy, Smith drove his mount out on the run in, however didn't want to get there too early as his horse pricked his ears once in the lead, although he had enough ability to win. Silk And Roses, who was also always up with the pace, stayed on well in second, whilst Bishops Ploy was third.

The Confined was won by Impact Zone, who seems to be improving with every run this season. Settled in behind the leaders, Joanna Mason made good headway to tackle long-time leader Mr Gossip between the final two and stayed on powerfully after the last to win with a bit in hand; Mr Gossip weakened up the run in for second, whilst Benwell bounced back to something like his best with an encouraging third.

There was a bit of an upset in the Restricted as Kate Leckenby piloted 20-1 shot Farriers Flight to win and record her second career success. The pair disputed the lead for most of the way while Triggers Sun went on after two out, but Farriers Flight fought back up the run in to win well. Triggers Sun was back in second for John Dawson and should soon follow up, while Transporter looked a bit one-paced back in third.

The Hunt Members race went to the Tutty family and Brize Norton. Settled in midfield, Pip Tutty always looked confident aboard her mount and looked as though she had plenty to do to catch leader Murphys Beau, however a well timed ride saw her catch Murphys Beau near the line to win a shade comfortably. Baron Romeo is a consistent sort at this level and finished third.

The Ladies Open was won by Tina Jackson and her own Rimsky. This useful stayer, who was previously trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies, was lit up by the return of blinkers and, after making the majority of the running, stayed on powerfully to fend off Sea Scout who was staying on very well at the end but could not quite reach the winner. Canada Street was also prominent throughout and stayed on well to take third and it shouldn't be long before he goes a couple of places better.

The Mens Open went to the talented My Old Piano and Tom Greenall. Settled in midfield, the pair made steady headway through out, however long time leader Oakland's Bobbie tried to steal the race two out as Chris Dawson kicked for home.

Oakland's Bobbie led over the last but as they met the bottom of the hill the winner's class began to show as he pulled clear. Willywonthe is coming back to his best as he stuck on well for third.
