JAMES BANKS: hopes to return later this season

Carolyn Tanner reports on two Riders currently on the sidelines.

Kelly Keefe will be out of action for the rest of the season after her Cottenham fall at the beginning of the month which hospitalised her for nearly a week. Kelly suffered fractures to her lower vertebrae and her neck, and she is also experiencing problems with the vision in one of her eyes.

Her first outing since then was to Detling to watch her Aughlea Bridge, whose fall it was that caused her injuries, finish fourth in the Men's Open under Tom Cannon. Tom will take the ride on this one and on Kelly's other intended ride, Particular Man, for the rest of the campaign.

Providing she can find a chauffeur, Kelly is able to get to trainer David Phelan's yard to see her duo, and she is looking forward to seeing Particular Man run at Charing this weekend.

James Banks has joined the list of riders on the sidelined list, having recently fractured his ankle in a schooling fall. In November he scored his first success over the Cheltenham fences on Rustarix, trained by his boss Alan King, and he had some useful rides lined up for the current Pointing season.

He describes the fracture as "straightforward," and is hoping to be back in the saddle in four or five weeks.
