Reigning Northern area champion Kelly Bryson recorded her first treble at Friars Haugh on Saturday. She won the Hunt race on Quotica de Poyans, owned by Philippa Shirley-Beavan, for whom she works, the Restricted on Silk Parasol, and the Maiden on Buckstruther.

James Banks, 24, who is in his third season as an amateur with Alan King, completed his first double at Detling on a pair trained by Karen Hobbs. He won the Maiden Division Two on Commander Kev, who had been placed several times under Rules for Noel Chance, and the Restricted on the Irish Maiden winner One Cool Knight.
One of the horses which James rides out regularly at the King yard is the outstanding Chaser Voy Por Ustedes.

Detling was also the venue for the initial success of Seran Sherwood, 27, in the Ladies' Open on Which Pocket, trained by her partner, jockey Derek Laverty. Seran, who has had only a handful of previous rides, was gifted Which Pocket by his former handler Brendan Powell, for whom she rides out. She and Derek run a breaking, pre-training and Point-to-Point yard at Kingston Lisle, near Wantage.

It was also a Red Letter day for Grant Cockburn, 17, who opened his account in the Dodson & Horrell Novice Riders' race at Friars Haugh on Quinder Spring, trained by his employer Lucinda Russell for her father Peter.
**********
Laura Mason enjoyed her initial victory at North Carlton when Well Presented, owned by her mother Susan and trained by her father Ian, landed the Ladies' Open, in which her twin sister Rebecca, who finished fourth, was cheering her on from behind! 18-year-old Laura represents Newcastle University, where she is reading geography, at both fencing and hockey, and she is currently their sole pentathlete.

Isabel Tompsett, who has recently been riding with considerable success under Rules, scored her 50th victory between the flags in the Ladies' Open at Erw Lon on Saturday, when her mount Chesnut Annie was the only one of the five runners to complete. This was the partnership's 20th triumph, the tally including one Hunter Chase.
