21 April 2011 May Day Bank Holiday Meetings Announce Watering Plans

by Point-to-Point Racing Company Ltd Staff

Information has started to come through from meetings taking place over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend regarding their plans to water.
  • The Atherstone at Clifton-on-Dunsmore announced today that the course will be spiked and then watered in advance of their meeting on Sunday May 1st, with the intention of producing Good ground on race day.
  • The Warwickshire at Ashorne: the course is over old pasture and has a good cover of grass; it has been watered for the last week and will continued to be watered for the next fortnight right up to the race meeting should no rain materialise. We aim to produce Good safe jumping ground. It is also expected that Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Long Run will parade at the meeting.
  • The Radnor & West Hereford at Cold Harbour: hunt supporters have already been hard at work preparing the course at Cold Harbour, which will host the 4m Mens Open race for the Crudwell Cup on Sunday May 1st. Secretary Christine Rogers explained, "We've hired a Verti-Drainer from Ludlow Racecourse which lets water into the turf, and we're already watering- we're lucky to have a brook near the course, so it isn't a problem."
  • The Pendle Forest & Craven at Heslaker have a good cover of grass and report that watering will commence next Monday and will continue every day up until the day of the meeting. Talking Point will be regularly updated throughout the week.
  • Cambridgeshire with Enfield Chace at Northaw report: "The course is in good shape and has been harrowed, rolled, fertilised and Verti-drained and the going is level. The intention is to start watering 27th / 28th April and to apply up to 150,000 gallons over the 5 days until 1 May with the intention to produce "GOOD, with some SOFT places", We shall be paying particular attention to the landings at each of the seven fences.
  • Countryside Alliance Club (South East) at Parham report: "The course has been watered for the past two weeks and will continue until the meeting. An aggravator will be used next week. As the course is on a light soil it is very receptive to the water we use, there is also an excellent cover of grass and there will be fresh ground on 2/3rds of the course. We will be refunding £25.00 on each local Area horse declaring and £35.00 on horses declaring from out of the Area".
  • The Banwen Miners Hunt will be Aerovating the course at Pentreclwydau on Monday the 25th of April. Watering will commence on Tuesday the 26th of April with the aim of providing Good - Good to Firm ground conditions on race day.
  • Radnor & West Hereford at Cold Harbour: the course has been verti-drained and watered since Wednesday 20th. Watering will continue in the run-up to the meeting.
  • North Ledbury at Maisemore Park: fresh ground will be used, all fences and bends have been moved and the course will be watered. Entries close at noon on Monday. Please click here for a correction to the race conditions at this meeting from what was printed in the Planner.
