The battle for the Gentleman Riders Title looks to be going the way of Richard Burton after the three-time former Champion won on his only ride of the day at a rain-soaked Bratton Down.
His victory on Transporter, who had travelled to Devon all the way from Oliver Greenall's Cheshire yard, puts him three wins ahead of his closest rival Phil York, who drew a blank from his three booked rides.
Burton will now travel to the final meeting of the season - the Torrington Farmers at Umberleigh on Saturday - safe in the knowledge that only a minor miracle from York will deny him the title that he last won in 2006.
Not one to go down without a fight, York still looks set to try and take the title down to the wire and has at least three potential mounts for Saturday's final showdown. He could choose from either Ringa Bay or Dawn Display in the Mens Open and any one of Ringa Bay, Present Of Flame or Dawn Display in the Intermediate, while recent Ideford Arch runner-up Qomolangma looks his likely partner for the closing Maiden.
