26 January 2009 Preview: Mid Devon - Black Forest Lodge
JAFARO DES BOIS: winner of the Restricted at the last meeting is entered this time in the Intermediate
Lady Myfanwy heads the entries at Black Forest Lodge on Sunday where 122 entries have been received for the seven race card.
Jenny Carr clicked brilliantly with the mare when they teamed up for the first time to win a hot Ladies' race at the course two weeks ago. It was a thrilling finish with Lady Myfanwy stamping her class on the run-in to pull away for a two length success taking her unbeaten run to eight in the process.
Filling the places were Croix De Guerre and Dr Cerullo and the pair are also entered in the Mid Devon Memorial Ladies' Open, along with Winter Scene who could run a big race following her encouraging performance at the course last week where she finished second carrying a big weight in the Members' race.
That race was won by Ryeman, who is entered in the Exeter Racecourse Intermediate. He was a first training success for Andy Jackson and could well follow up carrying Denis Williams' well know red and white colours. Also entered is another course winner Jafaro Des Bois who took the Restricted race for novice riders in good style last time out.
A hot race is in prospect in the Restricted with several promising types lining up. Uncle Dan and Dan Ryan were involved in a terrific finish at the course two weeks ago, just losing out to Lady De Paris to take the minor places. Also entered is It's Danny Boy, a well backed winning favourite at the course in November.
The Maiden has been split into two divisions and punters a have received plenty of clues in the past few weeks.
Leslie Jefford's team are in good order and Golden Benefit could well improve on her second to It's Danny Boy in November. She runs in the second division of the Maiden where Mr Dass and Colorado Storm, both promising seconds, are entered alongside Sir Oscar who started favourite last time out but was pulled up.
Entries in the first division include Ivorsagoodun and Mistree Dancer, who could improve on third places last time out and Perfect Gem, who has finished second this season.
The course is situated at Black Forest Lodge near Kenton just off the A380. Admission costs £20 for car and occupants, with a concession of £10 for a single occupant.
