28 April 2009 Preview: Modbury Harriers - Flete Park
by Lucy Johnson
THE idyllic setting of the Flete Estate is the setting for this Saturday's Point-to-Point, and with records broken for attendances at the first meeting a fortnight ago, another fine day of racing is on the cards.
Pony racing begins the card at 1pm, and then six Point-to-Point races kick off with an Open Maiden at 2pm. Entries include the Polly Gundry and Ed Walker-trained Karrot Kake, who was a promising second at Trebudannon on her debut in April, and Lucette Annie who has rattled up three seconds in a row this season and was beaten five lengths by Carrie On at the course last time out.
The Restricted could prove competitive with several improving types entered including Buckfastleigh winner Super Lady, the consistent Global Party, Cothelstone winner Violet Elizabeth, Great Trethew winner Gunpark and Cantcallhertrigger who won at Cherrybrook. The nod goes to Carrie On, who travelled well to win at the course last time out and clearly likes the undulating track.
Just eight are entered in the four mile Ladies Open and Kingsmill Lake, who goes so well for Emily Nozskay, will be a firm favourite among punters following her win at the course last time out. However, Double Honour may just trouble the game mare; he's an out-and-out stayer and a class act on his day.
The 17 entered in the 2m4f Maiden include Trebudannon third Chef Junior, Karrot Kake and Lucette Annie.
Celtic Society could follow up his last-time-out success at the course in the Mens Open, although Long Night could be a danger. Elsewhere, Kitley Hassle, who has won three this season, will be short odds to win again in the Confined.
Entrance fee for the race meeting is £20 per car, including all passengers, or £10 per car and one driver. There will be a licensed bar, catering and on-course bookies, as well as various trade stands.
The course is situated off the A379 ten miles east of Plymouth. Leave the A38 at Ivybridge via the B3211.
