Kingsmill Lake: amongst a strong entry for the Ladies' Open
A busy weekend of Point-to-Point action is on the cards this weekend with two meetings in the Devon & Cornwall area. Saturday's action is at Flete Park, in South Devon, where the first of six races is off at 2pm and a parade of hounds will be included in the day's entertainment.
First race is an Open Maiden where there are 19 entries. They include Vixen Tor who finished second at the course two weeks ago and is sure to attract plenty of interest. Trainer Marie McGuinness has a couple of entries who both have chances. Over To Charlie was going well in a maiden at Upton-upon-Severn in March until she fell three fences from home, and Max's Choice was beaten a length at Chaddesley Corbett in a competitive maiden in April.
Benarina is another entry. She was second to IamwhatIam, who is entered in the Restricted, at the course a couple of weeks ago. Others in the Restricted to look out for are easy course winner Ryeman, who was a popular winner for long-time supporter of Point-to-Point racing Denis Williams, and Lucy Fielding-Johnson's lovely four year old mare Primitive Quest, who could provide Richard Woollacott with another winner.
The Ladies' Open race is a marathon test run over four miles, and it looks like a competitive renewal. The consistent Blue Business, Bill du Pont's Brown Cockle (a winner of three races this season), course winner Kingsmill Lake, Quick, Touch Closer and Winter Scene are all entered.
In the two and a half mile Maiden Dee Valley Boy is of interest, who was third at Trebudannon. Entries in the Men's Open include Lisheen Storm, The Quarry Man, Concert Pianist and Sara Monica who all have chances.
The course is situated near Ermington, in South Devon, and entrance is £15 per car.
