KAHLUA COVE: An impressive winner on her debut, looking to for further success in the Restricted

Point-to-Point racing resumes in the Devon and Cornwall Area on Sunday, January 8 with the North Cornwall Foxhounds staging its meeting at the Royal Cornwall Showground.

The Members race kicks off the seven race card at 12noon. The race is kindly sponsored by Mick Moore Landrovers and Wanna Do A Deal could set the pace but will need to tackle Total Containment who won a Maiden in Ireland last season.

The Mens Open, sponsored by Kivells Auctoneers of Holsworthy, may see the prolific winner Southwestern follow up on his win here in December, although his stable mate Special Account may keep him company around the course. Both are trained by Camilla Scott at Brompton Regis and it will be interesting to see how they fare. Ballydub may try to improve on his third to Southwestern and if he improves for that run he may go closer. Another to note is Khachaturian, who could improve on his recent second place to Divine Intavention at Black Forest Lodge and his trainer David Brace will be hoping to take some spoils back to Wales.

The Aga Ladies Open is a qualifier for the final at Cheltenham Racecourse on May 2nd, and the first four home in Sunday's race will also earn points towards the sponsor's new championship, in which a brand new Total Control cooker is up for grabs. This race could again see the top mare Sericina win for trainer/rider Chloe Roddick. Sericina looked as good as ever when hacking up here in December, taking her tally to 12 wins out of 19. Monkerty Tunkerty won the members Novice Riders here at the last meeting in a notably quick time.

The Restricted is sponsored by Ray Davies Foods, which is a local firm based in Wadebridge. Runners to note are Brackenwood, a Maiden winner here last time, Kahlua Cove, who won the Barbury Mares Maiden also in December, and Nobby Kivambo who had a good start to the season when second in a PPORA Club Members Maiden at Barbury before promptly following that up with a Maiden win at the South Midlands Area Club meeting. Party Pictures, trained by Ashley Farrent, was consistently placed last season and could come on for his run at Ideford Arch when third to Gunpark.

The PPORA Club Members race for Novice Riders is kindly sponsored by HOP Oils. Of the nine entries Ballydub ran a really good race here when third to Southwestern. Perouse, winner of eight National Hunt races, will be looking to improve on his second here last meeting, a race which was won by the favourite Monkerty Tunkerty.

The Open Maiden, sponsored by The Cornish Arms, Pendoggett nr Port Isacc, has attracted 35 entries and could well be divided.

The final race of the day is the Confined. This is kindly sponsored by The St Mabyn Inn, who also provide the on-course bar. Ellies Horse, trained by Karyn Heard, is a previous triple winner at the course, and although showed little on return here in December may have needed the race. Whatcanisay, an out and out stayer trained by Nikki Frost, could give her daughter Bryony a first winner. He is a good, strong confidence giver and loves the soft/heavy ground.

The course is situated off the A39 west of Wadebridge. Bookies, catering and a licensed bar are all under cover and access is easy for all types of vehicles. Postcode is PL27 7JE.
