03 June 2011 Preview: Pembrokeshire - Trecoed
by Amanda Meakins
A dedicated Pembrokeshire Hunt team have been preparing the course at Trecoed, nr Fishguard, to ensure good racing ground to finish off the West Wales season, this coming Saturday the 4th June.
The opening Hunt Members Race, the first of six races, with twelve entries and due off at 2pm looks set to be a very competitive affair, a just reward for the volunteers' efforts.
Whilst many of the Area Championships have already been decided, in fact all four area jockeys titles go to Pembrokeshire residents, the National Mens' Championships is very much up for grabs, title leaders Richard Burton (Shropshire) and Phil York (Surrey) both look to have potential mounts at the meeting.
The Mens Open sees two of Burton's regular mounts entered, Cedrus Libani and Enter Paradise. The former won just last week, whilst the latter came second to Burton and My Flora in the pointtopoint.co.uk Champion Novices' Chase at Stratford on Friday.
The Ladies Open may see Chesnut Annie looking for a final win of the season after losing the battle against Findlay's Find last time out.
With three pony races following the main card, race goers are invited to stay for the evening when a hog roast, BBQ and entertainment will commence around 6pm.
For those unsure of the courses location, tune the Sat Nav in to SA62 5UN, or follow the signs off the A40 Nr Fishguard. Entry to the meeting is £10 car and driver, £5 per person, under 16s go free if accompanied by an adult. Race cards are £2.50.
