25 March 2008 Puckeridge - Horseheath

The Hookie Bookie: goes for the Men's Open

A strong entry of 111 horses has been received for Saturday's six-race Puckeridge meeting at Horseheath. The action gets under way at 1.00pm with a 13-entry Club Members and there is a small possibility of a seventh race as there are 27 engaged in an Open Maiden, which will only be split on the day if it attracts more than 18 runners.

There will be a 35 minute gap between all races, and there will be a Hound Parade between races three and four.

Rydal Park, who would have been one of the favourites for a Fakenham Hunter Chase on Easter Monday that fell victim to the snow, may instead attempt to land his first Open race. He is one of 18 possibles for the Men's Open alongside The Hookie Bookie, who pulled up when Rydal Park was third in a hot Hunter Chase at Leicester last month but had previously won the Men's Open at the Cambridgeshire meeting here.

Scare Lotte, denied a run over Easter because of the soft ground, is one of 21 engaged in the Ladies' Open. Other interesting candidates here are course winner Madge Carroll, Full Irish and Leatherback, both from the in-form Joe Turner yard.

The curtain comes down on Horseheath's three-meeting season at 3.55pm with a 19-entry Restricted.

Admission will be charged at £10 per head including a free racecard , under 17s free, and racecards available at £2 for those with entry passes.

The course is south west of the village of Horseheath, between Linton and Haverhill, and has excellent access off a dual carriageway section of the A1307.
