28 April 2009 Preview: Radnor & West Hereford - Cold Harbour
by Stella Havard
There promises to be a wonderful weekend of Point-to-Point races at Cold Harbour, Monkland this Saturday (2nd) and Sunday (3rd), with 287 entries over the two cards.
The only two-day meeting in the Welsh Border area, the Radnor & West Hereford Festival provides plenty of action between the flags, coupled with a great day out in the countryside for all the family.
Amongst the attractions will be a parade of the Radnor & West HH hounds, pony racing and a hunt challenge.
Christine Rogers, the hard-working secretary of the fixture, will be on tenterhooks for more reasons than one when the flag drops for the first race of the fixture at 2 pm on Saturday. Her homebred grey ‘giant', Rumbury Grey will be attempting to land his third win of the season in the Members race, and give course owners Christine and husband, Alan good reason to celebrate.
The feature race of the second day is the Crudwell Cup Mens Open, the only four-mile race in the region, and Minsgill Mans will be attempting to take home the silverware for the third successive year.
The racing on both days begins at 2pm, and the popular course (HR6 0JP) can be found three miles west of Leominster, close to the junction of the A44 and the A4110.
