The local weather forecast looks much more optimistic this week for the Ross Harriers Point-to-Point at the picturesque Garnons Estate this Sunday (7th). The imposing residence and beautiful parkland are the perfect backdrop for an afternoon of excellent racing in the Spring sunshine, and a good attendance is anticipated.
The seven-race card has attracted 105 entries, and 2009 leading trainer in the area, Maz Scudamore, fields a strong stable team with Selassie, Waynesworld and Worship The Stars.
The Intermediate race for Novice Riders, is a qualifier for the Connolly's Red Mills Championship Final and the Dodson & Horrell PPORA Series Final, as well as earning points for the riders of the first three horses for the Harley Racing National Novice Racing Championship.
Long-standing owner Jim Callow will be hoping that his seven year-old Murphy's Fusilier, who finished third at Whitwick Manor last weekend with Nick Slatter on board, will throw in his usual consistent performance here. The talented Nick has graduated through a successful pony-racing campaign, and recently rode a winner at Barbury Castle on the family-owned Fiftyearson.
The first race, a ‘local derby' for the Ross Harriers and South Herefordshire Hunt Members, is due off at 1pm.
Garnons (HR4 7JU) is 8 miles west of Hereford on the A438 Kington Road. Entrance to the course is £10 per person, children under 16 and car parking free.
