02 March 2009 Report: Sinnington Hunt - Duncombe Park

SCRAPPIE: ridden by Tom Greenall won the 1st Division of the Maiden

Shackleton based trainer Cherry Coward once again stole the show at the Sinnington Hunt Point-to-Point at Duncombe Park on Saturday. She was the trainer of 3 winners, following on from her 4 timer the previous weekend at Witton Castle.

Her first winner was Ile De Paris, who was made favourite to win the Confined, with Yorkshire leading jockey Tom Greenall on board. The pair bided their time at the back of the 8 strong field until making a move on the long run to the last fence; the pair then quickened up well to beat Hardybuck (ridden by Guy Brewer) by 5 lengths.

Miss Coward's horses went on to take both divisions of the Maiden. Scrappie, ridden by Toby Greenall, stayed on from the last to win Division 1 by 2 lengths from the fast finishing Tees Components. Tom Greenall achieved his double when the well backed Aldea took Division 2, giving Cherry her 3rd winner of the day and a first for last year's leading owner, Eric Brook.

Guy Brewer turned the tables on Tom Greenall in the Restricted when Eliza Doalott sprouted wings on the run in and won by an easy 5 lengths from Amalfi Storm. Brewer's double came courtesy of Ask Bobby, who was 4-9 favourite to win the Men's Open. The pair was 10 lengths clear on the run in and looked to have the race in the bag, but the eventual winner idled badly close to the finish. Guy Brewer had to be at his best to fend off the fast finishing Steve Charlton on Willy Wont He, and managed to win by a diminishing neck.

The Ladies Open also went to the favourite when Jimmy's Duky - who had been a gallant 2nd at last Sundays Witton Castle meeting - won under Lucy Bell. The pair led from the 12th fence and, despite been challenged at the last by Fairy Skin Maker, stayed on to win by 6 lengths.

The most popular winner of the day was Cop Howe, who won the Members race for the second year running for local farmer David Shields. Ridden for the first time by Freya Hartley, deputising for the injured Jacqueline Coward, the pair led after the 3rd last. Despite being chased to the line by Jake Greenall on Network Oscar, Cop Howe stayed on strongly to win by 2 lengths. They came into the winners' enclosure to the biggest cheer of the day.
