05 May 2009 Preview: South Devon Hunts Club - Ideford Arch

by Lucy Johnson

This Sunday the South Devon Hunts Club Point-to-Point will take place at Ideford Arch near Chudleigh. This meeting was rescheduled from December and the first race is off at 2pm.

The Hunt Club Members race kicks off the card. Flete winner Eternal Midnight will be a firm favourite if she can hear the rattle of the ground under her hooves.

The eight entries in the Novice Riders' race include King Georges, who won a Club Members Novice Riders at Littlewindsor in March with Alice Pearn on board.

Road To Recovery was narrowly beaten at Flete Park on Saturday and he could make amends in the 2m4f Open Maiden race.

There are plenty of winners set to line up in the Mixed Open race. They include Xila Fontenailles and Lisheen Storm who both won at the Axe Vale meeting at Seaton a couple of weeks ago. Also entered is Holnicote winner Barney Blue; and the game mare Kingsmill Lake who has won twice this season.

Intermediate entries include the Roma Cook-trained Gemgaballou - who has won on both her outings this season - and the consistent Lords Bridge. The John Dufosee trained Mr Slipper will also be a favourite among punters following his odds-on success at Larkhill last month where he came home the 20 lengths winner.

The 19 runners in the Open Maiden race include Lucette Annie, who has finished second three times this season, and Field Gunner, who was a promising third at Cothelstone in March.

Sunday's meeting looks set to be a great day out for all the family with a range of trade stands, catering, on course bookmakers and a parade of hounds. Entrance is £20 per car and £10 per car with one occupant.
