19 April 2011 Preview: South Pembrokeshire - Lydstep

by Simon Rees

Monday's South Pembrokeshire Point-to-Point meeting is well on track .The course has been Aerovated with extensive watering taking place since Tuesday to ensure good ground for the runners.

104 entries have been received for the seven races which start at 1pm, with two pony races taking place after the main meeting. Unfortunately we are without jockey John Mathias who dislocated his hip at Chepstow last Friday, a real blow for John who was lying in joint second place in the National Jockeys Championships at the time. His main aim now is to make a steady recovery. Back home now, the next six weeks for John will be spent on crutches before starting any physiotherapy.

Stepaside's Paul Tolman will be hoping to claw back John's current lead in the West Wales Area Championships. Lying in second place, Paul in his own right is having his best season to date with his fiancée Jodie Hughes leading the Ladies championship.

Always a very popular meeting, race goers are reminded to allow extra time to get to the meeting with those travelling via the M4 and A40 reminded to look out for heavy traffic at Carmarthen due to the Mayors charity run taking place in the morning.
Entrance conditions are £10 for car & driver, £5 per person and under16s are admitted for free when accompanied by an adult. Sat Navs SA70 7SG. Bookmakers and caterers will be in attendance. For those who have never been to Lydstep it lies along the A4139 3 miles West of Tenby.
