The Staintondale Hunt hold their annual Point to Point on Bank holiday Monday at Charm Park, a meeting that is always highly attended and with 140 horses entered this year should provide an excellent day of racing.
The first race on the card is the Novice & Veteran Riders race and one horse that is in form is Andre Chenier, who backed up his good second at this track to win at the Hurworth meeting recently and should be hard to beat under the talented Charlotte Cundall.
Keeverfield has run some creditable races this season and if given an easy lead may be hard to catch. Moment of Madness has run well previously, but more will be needed. here; Knoxhill Archie was progressive last season but has failed to sparkle so far, whilst Vital Spark could give Harriet Dukes a good spin on only her second ride. Major Shark is very unpredictable, whilst Whinny Bank could sneak into a place.
Selection: Andre Chenier
The Restricted race looks hotly contested with several recent winners. Adieu Mari won easily at Welbeck, Blazing Bull was a good fourth in a Hunter Chase at Catterick, Fli Mi Son is consistent so should not be far away whilst Forge Valley looks to have improved this season and is another who should go close. Mr Gossip and Oojar were both easy winners of their Maidens, however Natureofthebeast beat a very competitive field impressively on his racecourse debut and should have no trouble following up here.
Selection: Natureofthebeast
A Mixed Open sees some of the best horses in Yorkshire take part here, including Poppy Day who has progressed rapidly this term and is a mare that appears to have stamina abundant, although My Old Piano is unbeaten when completing in Points and Hunter Chases so should be very hard to beat, He's The Gaffer was an easy winner of a Mens Open however disappointed subsequently in a Sandown Hunter Chase; Nippy des Mottes is a course winner, but improvement would be needed here. One Five Eight is returning to form, whilst Blandings Castle was a good second on his latest start and shouldnt be far away.
Selection: My Old Piano
The Confined sees a 29 strong field; including Gunner Jack and Sea Senor who have both won two races this season easily, with the latter looking the one to beat. Harwood Dale looked revitalised when winning his Hunt race at this track earlier this season; Keen Whip is consistent and his well know now for his cheeky antics, whilst Lem Putt was an impressive winner of his Restricted and can improve further. Miss Tosca and Miss Sunflower both stay very well however will need to find improved efforts here.
Selection: Sea Senor
The Open Maiden race looks an intriguing event with several running well at the moment. Arlington House was placed in Irish Points, Cashmere Jack made some creditable efforts under Rules, including a third in a selling Hurdle; Diamond Alice is steadily improving, whilst Hunt Ball was a good second at Witton Castle yet has disappointed since. Our Kenny made some good efforts under Rules, Warriors Choise was third on only his second start last season and can improve, whilst Nothing Left looked to still be on the upgrade when he finished second in a good Maiden at Welbeck recently. Rosa Fina could run well if on form, Oaklands Robbie has been unlucky and could bounce back here, Lady Hills was third on her Pointing debut and could improve, whilst Bring It On was ahead of her that day and ran like a horse with plenty of ability.
Selection: Bring It On
The final race on the card is a Conditions Maiden race, which is for horses that have never been placed second or third under any codes of Racing. The ones to note are that of Gill Walford, who does very well with her young horses; Bright Cloud should improve for a run and Classic Cruis could go well. Oaklands Robbie and Oaklands Somthin both look as though they have ability and should run very well. Taras Joy could run well for the John Wade team, whilst Cricket Bat showed some ability on his debut at the Holderness.
