ELIZADOALOTT: could go one better in the Mixed Open on Sunday

The Staintondale will be holding their meeting this Bank Holiday Monday at Charm Park near Wykeham. With 89 entries having been taken, a good day's racing should be expected.

The first race is the Veteran and Novice Riders. Chris Cundall looks to be the only veteran in the field and could hold a strong hand here, with Andre Chenier and The Gloves Are Off, but a place could be their best chance. New Time was an easy winner lately, but he will probably find one or two too strong here. A good novice rider is often a big help in these races and Max Johnson is as capable as any; he may partner Thistle who ran a very respectable third at Whitcliffe Grange and could go close again. Nile Moon may have found conditions too fast recently and is the most likely runner up to the talented Impact Zone who is a course winner and has failed to be out of the placings this season. He will most likely be partnered by one of the Mason twins who are more than adept in these races.
Selection - Impact Zone

The Restricted has received only ten entries but always ends up quite competitive. Chapel House continues to go close and should do so again, Forge Valley will appreciate fast ground and it shouldn't be long before he wins again, whilst Calapocus and Once Before have shown sparkles of their old ability this season but will have to settle for a place at best. Brompton Brow is highly respected by his trainer and won in devastating fashion last time; this should be an easy target for him.
Selection - Brompton Brow

The Mixed Open should hopefully provide some quality runners. Recent winner Sea Senor could be hard to catch if given an easy lead, which will be hard if Cottam Phantom also takes part. Ignotus looks like he may struggle to get the trip but is one to note, whilst the progressive Lem Put should not be ruled out as he looks to have more to give and also likes this track. Poppy Day will not want conditions fast, but stable mate Impact Zone would relish quick ground and could go close. Although Eliza Doalott was defeated recently, a larger field should mean a proper pace, and if at her best, should take all the beating.
Selection - Eliza Doalott

The Confined is the most strongly supported race on the card. Brize Norton was impressive at the Cleveland meeting, and with Nigel Tutty's horses flying at the moment, should go close. Go Moss Go likes the ground like a road, whilst Mr Gossip continues to find one too good and is maybe slightly unlucky. Willywonthe should have recovered from his very game effort in the Grimthorpe where he finished third. Elusive Swallow is a course winner and should be in the thick of it along with Unjust Law. Bitter Blue is very progressive however, and has recorded several easy victories this season so should be hard to beat.
Selection - Bitter Blue

The Open Maiden is next on the card and looks a very open event. Alfoisin is steadily progressing this season, Botany Cove has not been seen since second at Brocklesby, whilst Cosmic would have a good chance on previous efforts at this trip. Lost Reference has been placed on two occasions this season and looks one who can improve further, whilst Raasay went very close on only his second attempt and is an interesting contestant. Macleod is nicely bred and is one to note in the betting market.
Selection - Cosmic

The final race is the Open Maiden Conditions race, which is for horses that have never been placed in the first three. Alaspiel looks to have more of a flat pedigree, Alfinski is out of winning mare and placed hunter chaser Auntie Alice and could be worth minor each way support, whilst Cherry's Bay will be expected to improve for his experience. Easily Misled looked a well tuned and educated horse on his only appearance and should be noted. Jack Boland has never troubled the judge in eight attempts in Ireland. My Miss Lucy is out of Corn Lily who won a total of 16 races under rules and hails from a yard who knows the time of day, so should also be noted. Sally Cranny would be the pick of these on her debut effort and would have strong claims if partnered by an experienced jockey.
Selection - My Miss Lucy
