07 March 2008 Pub Team Preview, Suffolk - Ampton

It's that time of the week again, with the Pub Team's latest comprehensive preview for this Sunday's meeting of the Suffolk at Ampton.

1.30p.m. Hunt Members - 8 entries

Jilted Lover stormed up the hill to win at Horseheath and at least he comes here in form, something that can't be said about most of the others. Young Lord was well beaten at Horseheath and needs to find improvement. Cosmic Sky has been disappointing this year but would be a good thing on his old form. Winapenny was well in front of Young Lord but makes limited appeal along with stablemates Black Frost and Militaire who have shown nothing this year. Selection: Cosmic Sky (Jilted Lover)

2.05 p.m. Confined - 18 entries

Plenty of duplication here, with many of the form choices having alternatives on the card. A reproduction of Tuesday's Child's run here when 2nd to Caveman would make him a strong fancy but he has run poorly twice since. Baron Bernard won a weak race at Marks Tey but is capable if in the mood. Dunmanus Bay has been running well and should handle the ground. Supreme Sir has been disappointing since his debut win at Higham but has the ability. Never Awol is a quirky old thing who is a Towcester specialist and therefore will like the uphill finish. Thoutmosis was 4th at Marks Tey (2nd and 3rd have won since) and that form is looking strong now. Selection: Thoutmosis (Dunmanus Bay)

2.40 p.m. Ladies Open - 15 entries

Millenium Way is a multiple course winner and has not been disgrace when runner up in his last 2 starts. Scare Lotte will be a tough nut to crack. She continues to improve and hustled up Carryonharry at Godstone last week. Full Irish showed a return to form when runner up at Horseheath but would you trust him to reproduce it.  Stablemate Leatherback will need a few of the principals not to show if he is to add to his win record.  Limerick Leader will come on for his seasonal debut in a hot race at Brocklesby and is a threat to all. Snob Wells was 2nd in Mens Open at Marks Tey but that form is a little sort of the better ones here. Selection: Scare Lotte (Millenium Way)

3.15 p.m. Mens Open - 6 entries

Court Adjourn achieved a hat trick last season and finished 3rd to Bon Accord at Cheltenham on his Hunter Chase debut; has had one run this season where ran rather disappointingly finishing 5th at Tweseldown. Dunmanus Bay was 3rd in a Mens open at Horseheath last time out and previous to that won a Novice riders race at Marks Tey; has run four times this season including when pulled up at the first Ampton meeting. Persian Hero is a course winner and has been a highly rated pointer but is now probably passed his best, still good enough though in this company, has won on the firm. Quality First has had one run this season, at Cottenham when finishing 6th; has won seven races under rules, is now fifteen, a difficult type but connections unlikely to be put off by the ground. Thoutmosis was 4th last time out to Rydal Park in the Confined at Marks Tey, previous to that was 3rd in a Confined in the first meeting here. McBarker is the lowest rated, is an ex hurdler/chaser, has been placed under rules and won a Maiden PtP in Ireland. Selection: Court Adjourn (Persian Hero)

3.50 p.m. Restricted - 10 entries

Some interesting entries here and could be an informative race. The Camerengo has not always enjoyed the best of luck but his turn in this grade can't be far away.  Mid Div and Creep was runner up to a useful sort here in January and after finding Cottenham too sharp scored an easy win at Horseheath. The Fast Frog is from a yard that raid here successfully and will make his presence felt.  Knockarron looks the pick of the ex Irish pointers. Took My Eye won a short Maiden at Cottenham and needs a little more to score here. Young Rocky is rather flattered by his form figures. His win at Kingston Blount was achieved in bizarre circumstances. Selection: The Camerengo (Mid Div And Creep)

4.25 p.m. Open Maiden 5yo+ - 18 entries

Plenty of bits and pieces of form here and many to consider. The Right People showed the necessary stamina when placed over Hurdles and a race like this should definitely be within his compass. Onyx D'Ace made much of the running before fading into 4th at Marks Tey; he holds Jerry'N See More on that run. Arctic Sun is lightly raced but has a little ability judged on his recent placing at Horseheath.  Electric Times was a couple of lengths behind him that day. Cadtauri is a shoddy jumper and missed the target in a weak race last week at Higham. Minehill Lad was placed in Irish points and although not completing has shown promise on this side of the Irish Sea. Twist the Facts has placings in 2 mile Hurdle races but has been absent for a while. Selection: Onyx D'Ace (The Right People)
