31 March 2010 Preview: Teme Valley - Brampton Bryan

by Stella Havard

The Point-to-Point course at Brampton Bryan is the oldest in the Welsh Border area and is steeped in history.

Several battles were fought in the locality in bygone ages and there is likely to be another one on Easter Saturday in the Teme Valley Hunt Mens Open race when Hoh Nelson and Worship The Stars cross swords again.

Ann Price will be hoping her gallant Hoh Nelson will be able to repeat his Garnons victory and outstay the flying grey again on her home territory. As an ex-Master of the Teme Valley, it would be poignant indeed.

Secretary Pauline Duggan has received 122 Entries for the seven-race card and an excellent day's sport is in prospect. The PPORA race for Novice Riders will see several youngsters trying to add points to their tallies for the Harley Racing series; and Maz Scudamore's charge, Selassie may well put up a good performance.

The beautiful riverside course in the heart of the Welsh Border farming country has a natural grandstand and is always a popular venue.

The first race is due off at 1.00pm and the Brampton Bryan course (SY7 0JT) can be found between Leintwardine and Knighton on the A4113, 9 miles north of Ludlow.

Entrance to the races is £10 per person, with children under 16 and car parking free.
