03 March 2010 Preview: Thames Valley Club - Tweseldown

by Robin Gray

Well known local sportsman Fenton Ramsahoye hopes to break his seasonal duck at Tweseldown on Sunday.

Switching from moor racing to Point-to-Point racing two years ago, 46-year-old Fenton, who plays cricket as an all rounder for Frensham, rides his own Presenting Express in the Thames Valley Club Members race - the second event on the six race programme starting at 12noon.

‘After three races the horse is fit and so am I', says Fenton, ‘He is a front runner and the problem is that when other horses challenge him at halfway, he tends to switch off. My job on Sunday is to make certain he stays competitive!'

Presenting Express is trained at Morestead by Jenny Gordon who expects to run Manderlay Bay in the Restricted race and the hightly regarded Nice Pick in the Maiden, with leading rider Clare Allen in the saddle.

Royal Tir, ridden by Tweseldown regular Michael Holdforth, runs in the Mens Open race following his close second two weeks ago to the useful Bon Accord at Barbury Castle.

The Ladies Open is one of the fourteen race ‘Order of Excellence' series sponsored by Brightwells Insurance and the Racing Post Weekender.

Prize money will be doubled and points scored will be totalled to find the winner of the Order of Excellence trophy at the seasons end. The added incentive will ensure a competitive race for which 17 horses have been entered.

Entrance is £15 per car including the driver with additional adults at £10 a head and under sixteens admitted free. The course is half a mile south of Fleet on the B3013 - postcode - GU52 8DY.
