14 January 2010 Yet another weekend wiped out

by Weatherbys Chase Staff

For the third week in a row, there will be no Point-to-Point racing in Britain this weekend.

This morning, we heard from the one remaining meeting scheduled to run this weekend, the North Norfolk Harriers, who announced that the already twice-postponed Higham fixture has been abandoned due to snow on the course.

The North Norfolk meeting secretary, Tina Hayward, has asked us to point out that all entry cheques will be destroyed and will not be returned to owners.

Yesterday we heard that the Dunston Harriers at Ampton has been abandoned and will not rearrange, while the Point-to-Point Owners & Riders Club two-day meeting also announced on Wednesday night that they will not be seeking a new date.

Plenty of other upcoming meetings have announced that they are to be postponing: the already-postponed Yorkshire Area Point-to-Point Club at Sheriff Hutton, scheduled to run on January 24th (postponed from January 17th) have been forced to postpone again because the course will not be ready. They are searching for replacement date later in the season.

Snow at Dunthrop has forced the Heythrop to put their meeting back a week, and this fixture will now take place on Sunday January 31st, with entries closing at 8pm on Sunday January 24th.

The Silverton at Black Forest Lodge has postponed until Saturday March 27th. Entries will now close on Sunday March 21st, and racing will now start at 1pm, not 12noon as initially advertised.

Meanwhile, news has come through from Larkhill regarding the possibilities of next week's Royal Artillery meeting going ahead, and further details can be found here.
