21 April 2010 Preview: West Norfolk - Fakenham

by James Crispe

Camel racing comes to an East Anglian Point-To-Point for the first time on Sunday April 25th when Fakenham stages the West Norfolk Foxhounds fixture.

There will be the usual six steeplechase races, starting at 2.00pm, and the jumping action is preceded by two children's pony races (which come under orders at 1.15pm) and followed by two four-runner camel races, which go off at 4.45pm.

A total of 83 horses have been entered for the chases, starting with seven in an opening Members Race which could see a clash between last year's winner Toe To Hand and Nokimover, who won it in 2009.

The in-form Joe Turner yard holds the key to the 17-entry Ladies Open as it's three representatives include King du Berlais, who won impressively at Horseheath two weeks ago and Assassino, who is on a hat-trick having shocked one of his potential rivals here, Mid Div And Creep, at High Easter last Saturday.

The Mens Open has another triumverate of geldings who sport the dark blue-and-white Turner silks. But Where's My Baby, who won a fantastically exciting renewal of this race 12 months ago, bounced back to form with a good win at High Easter last month and may be able to complete back-to-back victories.

Fakenham Racecourse is located two miles west of the town in North Norfolk at post code NR21 7NY. It is well signposted as it is a proper National Hunt course - portable Pointing fences are placed on the outside of the usual obstacles.

Admission will be charged at £10 per head with under 17s admitted free.
