Balableu: trained by Suzy Bull
The first Point-to-Point of the South East season takes place at Detling on Saturday (26th Jan). With good ground expected, the organisers are hoping for a strong turnout.
Likely runners include Sheriff's Friend, hero of last season's Kent Grand National when ridden by Jenny Gordon. Entered for the Open, Sheriff's Friend is now 13 years old but is said to have retained all his old ability. He will be ridden by his new handler, 24-year-old Nick Pearce, who has already notched up two winners from two rides outside the South East area.
Hannah Grissell, tipped by some for the Ladies' title, makes her comeback after breaking a hip last season. She rides Spanish Point in the Restricted.
From the Suzy Bull yard Penny Hacking takes her first ride on Galapiat du Mesnil in the Novices, while Balableu and Laguna Beach tackle the Maiden. Stuart Robinson expects to run Turnstile in the Open and Parzando in the Maiden, while Marcus Gorman hopes conditions will be right for his recent winner The Tailor Carey in the Restricted and Old Kilminchy in the Open.
