At the Ivy Bush Royal Hotel Carmarthen 135 guests enjoyed the West Wales Area Point-to-Point Annual Area Awards and Dinner Dance with former Irish Tourism Board Chief Brian Geraghty doing a first-class job as guest speaker.
The dinner always enjoys a great atmosphere as the great and good of last season are remembered and rewarded with their trophies. The new season, which is fast approaching, created a buzz of anticipation in what successes may lay ahead.
The most surprised man of the night was Dr Steven Griffiths who received the Henry Blake Memorial trophy, an award given to the person or persons who make an outstanding contribution to the sport in the Area. The winner, who is announced on the night, is always kept a closely guarded secret and last year's winners The Jones Family, fronted by no other than Dai Jones, had great pleasure in handing the trophy over to its next keeper.
A big thank you from the Area goes to Rachel Mathias and Christine Toy for taking on the job of organising the event. Christine now turns her attentions to the secretarial duties of the Area Club meeting on January 2nd.
