10 March 2009 Preview: Western Foxhounds - Wadebridge
The Royal Cornwall Showground at Wadebridge is the location for this Saturday's Point-to-Point with the first race off at 12.30pm.
With undercover bookies, catering and easy access for parking, the venue is always popular with racegoers where the tough climb for home up the finishing straight can change the result of a race in just a few yards and cause plenty of excitement for the crowd.
Eight horses are entered in the opening Confined race and include course winner Unusual Suspect who was beaten at short odds to finish third here last month; the hugely consistent Nditlir and Cattle Class who always seems to finish in the placings. Here Comes Harry, Phantom Walker and River Heights have also all won races so it looks a wide open contest.
The 11 Ladies Open entries include Bucket Awl, a winner of four races last season; Bob Bites Back who won in Wales a couple of weeks ago and Suzy Berry's Ha Ho McGregor who won at the course in December and then was a beaten at odds on last month by Master Overseer. Innocent Rebel has won three times at the course and could make his season debut a winning one while Nobody Tells Me has winning hunter chase form under his belt having won at Taunton last month.
The Exeter Racecourse Intermediate could be hugely competitive with the eight entries all holding some sort of chance. The highly regarded Ellies Horse is a course winner but disappointed on his next outing at Great Trethew; Gemballou and Matako have both won twice this season while Kisha King could take the spoils back to Wales.
Nineteen entries in the open maiden race include My Nicole who ran encouragingly at Great Trethew when finishing second to The Disengager. Cantcallhertrigger is consistent without actually winning and Mulligan's Pet may improve for his outing at Buckfastleigh last month where he was third.
The seven Mens Open entries include Mioche D'Estruval and two Welsh invaders - the Robert Scrine-trained Overlut and David Rees' Paktol Des Brosses.
Bathwick Shannon, Benarina and The Disengager are among the entries in the restricted but the nod goes to Busy Buzzard who should improve for his second at Ottery St Mary last month.
The course is situated on the A39 west of Wadebridge and the first of the six races is off at 12.30pm.
