The Yorkshire Area Point-to-Point Championship Awards Dinner Dance took place at Wetherby racecourse on Saturday 16th October and over 200 enthusiasts were in attendance.
A bucks fizz reception preceded a wonderful dinner, served by CGC Events, before the presentation of the awards took place. There were some familiar faces and new faces collecting awards but each recipient had rehearsed excellent acceptance speeches prompting tears and laughter throughout. The winners were as follows;
Tennants Auctioneers Gentlemans' Championship - Mr Chris Dawson
White Rose Saddlery Ladies' Championship - Miss Jacqueline Coward
Cundalls Novice Gentlemans' Championship - Mr Max Johnson
Cundalls Novice Ladies' Championship - Miss Charlotte Cundall
JAG Burnell & Son (Electrical) Leading Owner - Mr Tom Bannister
Northern Bookmakers Protection Association Open Horse - Andre Chenier, Mr Chris Cundall
Northern Bookmakers Association Novice Horse - Sea Senor, Mr Brian Dunn
RA Bethall Memorial Trophy - Most Wins - Gunner Jack, Mr Eric Brook
Howard Brown Memorial Trophy - Best Homebred Horse - Skarmanche, Mrs Sarah Dent
Chris Dawson also received the Alan Smith Award for the jockey with the most wins and Charlotte Cundall won the ride of the season for her amazing comeback ride after serious injury and first victory on Major Shark at the Sinnington Point-to-Point, beating her father into second place.
Earlier this year, Charlotte won an award in the Martin Wills Writing Awards for her story about her schooling injury and her return to riding, which was thoughtfully read out by Jacqueline Coward before Charlotte collected the Cundalls Novice Ladies' Championship award. It was quite fitting for Charlotte to win this award as the sponsor is a Yorkshire based auctioneers and estate agents set up by her grandfather who sadly passed away earlier this year.
The awards were followed by dancing into the early hours.
