19 May 2009 Bob triumphant in the Young Horse Awards

BOB BITES BACK: the season's leading Young Horse

Bob Bites Back, owned by Edna Hussey, has come out on top in this year's pointtopoint.co.uk/PPORA Young Horse Awards.

The seven-year-old Bob Back gelding, who hunts with the Tredegar Farmers, has won six of his ten Point-to-Point starts this season, giving him an outstanding total of 70 points. His trainer Robert Scrine was also responsible for the second placed horse, Overlut (52 points), while Ardnaclancy flew the flag for the Northern Area, coming in third with fifty points.

The winning connections will receive a cheque for £1,000 and a trophy, which will be presented at the PPORA Awards Lunch at Stratford Racecourse this coming Friday, May 22nd.

Meanwhile, the Harley Racing PPORA Novice Riders' Award for 2009 has been won by Matt Griffiths. Eighteen-year-old Griffiths, who is based in Somerset, ended the season with 32 points, including seven wins in qualifying novice riders' races, and has ridden seventeen winners in total this season. He will also receive his prize of a £400 Harley Racing Equipment Voucher at the PPORA Awards Lunch on Friday.

The winners of the Princess Royal Trophy and the Wilkinson Sword Novice Award have also been decided. These awards are for the leading lady and gentleman novice rider aged under 21, who had not ridden a winner under any Rules prior to the start of the current Point-to-Point season. The Princess Royal Trophy has been won by seventeen-year-old Lucy Barry, who rides for John Manners, while seventeen-year-old Will Hickman, based in the South-East area, lands the Wilkinson Sword.
