Due to there being no point to pointing, some current owners have queried whether they could run their horses Under Rules if previous owners agreed to this change.

BHA have agreed that this will be allowed for Hunter Chases in this season only, subject to the following requirements being met. The decision of the BHA Equine Health and Welfare team will be final.

2021 Point to Point NRA/HC Special Amendment for 2020-21 Only

To run in a Hunters’ Chase under Rules the horse must have a 2020/21 Hunter Certificate lodged and dated prior to 1 January 2021. The registered owner of the horse agrees to:

 i. obtain written authority from the owner imposing NRA that the horse may run in Hunters’ Chases (only) for the remainder of the 2020/21 season (to 30 April 2021)

ii. the horse being excluded from Championship/Foxhunter races

iii. provide medication records, full veterinary history (to include point in time NRA imposed). It would be useful if a video could be submitted of the horse trotting up and down reducing the likelihood of a need for BHA Veterinary examinations (see vi below)

iv. provide the horse’s training record (to include identity of trainer/keeper, duration in/out of training, schooling history)

 v. provide the horse’s form

vi. if required submit the horse for examination by a BHA Veterinary Officer and comply with any additional recommended examination (to include scans and/or x-rays)

vii. bear the costs, to include costs of any examination (which will be non-refundable in the event of refusal)

Information required by i-v to be submitted to the BHA two weeks prior to intended race. The BHA will discuss with owners their findings to allow them to make a decision before moving to Vi and Vii. The provision is intended as a temporary exemption for horses where the NRA makes allowance for the horse to run in Point-to-Point races. The registered owner agrees that the final decision regarding eligibility is entirely at the BHA’s discretion.

Any Owner wishing to proceed should collect all the above information required in i to v and forward to [email protected] with a Title:
