One of Jump racing’s most high-profile personalities has revealed he switches off from the stresses of his day job by wandering around cow sheds on winter nights wearing a head torch.
Harry Cobden, who as a 16-year-old in the 2014/15 point-to-point season mopped up a series of titles – national novice champion, PPORA u-21 champion, regional novice titles and owner of leading pointer Cock Of The Rock (pictured above) on whom he rode seven winners – has revealed his passion for buying, selling and just generally gazing at cattle in an interview for the BBC’s On Your Farm with correspondent Sarah Swadling. She visited Cobden at his Somerset home where he said the money he earns as a jockey is all ploughed back into the farm.

Cobden, who went on to become champion conditional jockey and then champion jockey in his role as no.1 rider at the stable of Paul Nicholls, talks of his love for hunting as a young boy and that his ambition as a child was to become a huntsman, then an auctioneer, before realising his ability in the saddle could create a career in racing.
