Finding winners amidst a bumper 126 entries for Gloucester Races at Maisemore Park on Sunday (March 30) is unlikely to prove an easy task but a great afternoon's sport awaits racegoers and punters with the promise of some equine stars of the future on show in the 4 & 5yo Maiden and Flat Race.
At the time of writing the official going is 'good all round' with clerk of the course Jim Squires stating that "we will water during the week to maintain our current position". He added: "There are a few showers in the forecast on Friday and we will have to wait and see if they materialise."
From untapped potential in the aforementioned Maiden and Bumper to a roll-call of some well-known veteran names in the Mixed Open which could prove the ideal opportunity for One For Rosie to make amends for a couple of lack-lustre efforts so far this term.
Both defeats for Jason Maguire's 12-year-old grey have come at Larkhill and connections are keeping their fingers crossed that a return to a left-handed circuit like Maisemore, where he has been successful in the past, can reignite the gelding's enthusiasm.
Maguire said: "He has been disappointing in his two outings to date this season but he has found his form in the Spring in the last couple of seasons and we are all hoping that could be the case again as he has been very well in himself at home
"We have freshened him up as best we can since his last run back in February and hopefully coming back to a left handed track which he is proven over will work in his favour and he can get his head back in front."
As stated previously, the Four And Five Years Old Maiden is probably better known as the Sales race as connections of many of the 21 entries will have one eye on the sales ring at Cheltenham later next month.
Many of the usual suspects have entries and it will obviously be important to note which horses are actually declared on the day and then pay close attention to the betting moves in ring beforehand.
Taking three against the field is guesswork at best but here goes- Le Roi Remi (Gina Andrews), In A Sonnet (Tom Lacey) and Idaho Fire (Josh Newman).
Jo Priest has her string in very good heart at present and she has made three entries for Barely Famous on the seven-race card and if she decides to let the nine-year-old take her chance in the Hunt Members contest then the hint should be taken.
Barely Famous narrowly lost out in a duel when touched off by Pink Eyed Pedro at Howick three weeks ago but that form reads well enough in the context of this race and she can register her first point to point success.
The PPORA Restricted is another competitive affair with many of the entries having chances but the answer could be to side with Ideal Du Tabert, who represents the combination of up and coming trainer Laura Richardson and rider Huw Edwards.
Ideal Du Tabert has won twice since defeat by Mumbo Jumbo at Chaddesley Corbett in late December but with successes since at Sheriff Hutton and Bangor-On-Dee, he is clearly going the right way.
The lightly raced Brave Starlight would be an obvious danger if repeating his second to Sine Nomine at Stratford almost two years ago but he has shown little in three tries under Rules more recently.
A dash of colour and celebrity is added to the afternoon's proceedings with Mulberry Hill , owned and trained by TV's very own Luke Harvey, set to take her chance in the PPORA Conditions contest for Veteran and Novice Riders.
Harvey is taking a rare afternoon off from being in front of the the cameras of ITV Sport and Sky Sports Racing to saddle the mare and said: "I hope she can run well as she has definitely come on for her pointing debut when beaten a fair way at Garthorpe earlier this year
"She probably prefers going right handed but she is running at Maisemore as the ground is quick enough almost everywhere else and I would like to think she has a little each way chance in an open looking race."
The Maiden For 6 Year Olds & Up is another competitive race of its kind and a chance is taken on Fayrely Fruitful who should be able to build on her second placed effort at Friars Haugh earlier this month.
There is every chance on paper that the concluding Flat race, where the majority are making their racecourse debuts, will be divided on the day - so the two against the field will be Gina Andrews's Ladies Day and Nuevo Nancy, trained by Bradley Gibbs.
